Job description

Offworld Industries are looking for a Senior Animator to join their independent studio and work on the Unreal Engine based multiplayer games they currently in development.

As a Senior Gameplay Animator at Offworld you will be crafting full body and first-person animations in line with the project’s art and gameplay direction and integrating your animations into the game engine as well as rigging complex weapon props, vehicles, and characters.

Offworld Industries Ltd is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, “Squad.” OWI was formed in 2014 by more than fifteen developers who had worked together on the well-known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.

Fast forward to 2023, OWI has 130 employees and is rapidly growing. They have been expanding the studio into serving as a publisher supporting mods and have just released their new title into early access, “Starship Troopers: Extermination”, a 16-player PvE first-person shooter based on the 1997 cult-classic film.

They are built on passion, unified spirit, and continuing efforts to break the mould as the studio strives to become a leader in creating large-scale multiplayer games as well as supplying other studios with the ability to do the same.

Your responsibilities…
  • Create high-quality full body and first-person animations based on established artistic and gameplay direction
  • Integrating animations into the engine
  • Rigging more complex weapon props, vehicles, and characters
  • Work in close collaboration with the Lead Animator to understand the quality objectives, game play intentions and engine capacities to anticipate the in-game look of the animations
  • Support with the triage of the team’s animation bugs
  • Managing animation quality of final assets in-engine and ensuring they are game ready
  • Assist the Lead Animator with taskings
  • Mentoring other animators, improving their skill sets and helping them in their day-to-day tasks
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Experience of end-to-end game development process, ideally on two or more shipped titles
  • 5+ years animation experience within the games industry
  • Expert understanding of movement, pose and timing
  • Thorough understanding of the nuances of first-person viewport animation
  • Able to work from reference materials like video or existing animation
  • Solid knowledge of rigging and of the animation process in Maya or equivalent software
  • Understanding of the technical constraints in game development and able to apply them when animating
  • Able to push the animation style and advance the look and feel of the animation in the game in conjunction with the Lead Animator
  • Organized and clean workflow, compatible with a collaborative environment
  • Effective communication skills across all levels and organizations
  • Comfortable working in in a dynamic and collaborative team environment
