Job description
We’re looking for a Technical Artist to join Steel City Interactive, a studio that are set on redefining the sports game landscape as their much-hyped boxing title continues development.
Steel City have created a fun working environment where you are able to express your creativity and passion for games as part of a fast-growing, dynamic games studio. You will play a crucial role in the development of their title and take ownership and responsibility for developing features, and working with the wider team on planning and delivery and share a passion for games.

Your responsibilities…
- Liaising between heads of programming and Art teams
- Researching and developing technical tools for a project
- Setting up and maintaining workflows of Art production
- Act as a bridge between Artists and Programmers
- Assisting in asset performance and validation
- Own and solve complex technical issues during development
- Evaluating and recommending on what software and tools are required for game production
- Developing and maintaining resources and pipelines in collaboration with programmers
- Ensuring final art runs to visual and technical targets
- Enforcing standards as outlined by heads of departments
- Developing tools and software to execute the needs of the game
- Working with Art and Programming to find best solutions for cross department areas such as cloth, physics, ragdoll etc.
- Optimizing of art assets to adhere to defined performance and memory budgets
- Writing custom software specific to the needs of the game which will work with industry standard scripting languages
- Researching and overseeing the implementation of rendering techniques
- Monitoring the performance of the game
- Proven experience on at least one AAA published title
- High attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Career training in VFX
- A strong portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates high level knowledge in technical art
- Solid understanding of art and animation pipelines
- Familiarity with game systems and the game development process
- Scripting skills
- Ability to identify the best tools and software to maximize game delivery
- Rendering and post-effects experience
- Understanding of rigging and animation
- Experience in physics simulations
- Shader development experience
- High level artistic skills - proportion, colour, composition
- Creative mindset and ability to overcome technical challenges
- Experience in digital art content creation - high and low-poly modelling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level art, etc
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with differences between creative and technical teams
- Strong 3D art package proficiency
- Experience working in game engines such as Unity / Unreal
