Lead Artist
Job description
We're working with an indie studio located on the sunny South Coast of England as they look for a Lead Artist to join their growing team as they a long-awaited sequel to their popular online multiplayer game.
As a Lead Artist you will take ownership of the art style across the whole project, from in-game content to promotional and marketing material to ensure a cohesive and attractive art style.
The project is being developed using cutting-edge technologies, including Unity DOTS and Havok Physics in a true indie studio environment, with a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where the team enjoy the autonomy to shape the direction of projects and make impactful decisions.

They alone decide on game features, platforms to release on, release dates and how the game is promoted and marketed, what business models are followed and what prices are charged. That is the freedom that being properly independent brings and that is what this studio is all about.

Your responsibilities will also include…
- Identify the requirements of the Art team, interview, hire, mentor and onboard new and Junior Artists
- Ensure the Art team is properly trained, resourced and has the equipment they need to be succeed
- Develop and document art processes, techniques, and workflows including communicating and managing the team to adhere to their principles
- Organise, schedule and manage the Art team to meet agreed deadlines
- Effectively profile and optimise art content to ensure it is framerate efficient
- Stay up to date with new art tools, techniques and development practices
- One or more published significant titles or experience working on AAA games
- Experience of managing and leading a distributed team of Artists
- Experience of mentoring, interviewing and scaling teams effectively
- Proven experience with hard-surface modelling and texturing to AAA standards
- Experience with environment art, landscape, foliage, and prop asset creation
- Experience with Unity HDRP lighting, atmospherics, post-processes, PBR materials
- An understanding of building shaders with node graphs such as Unity Shader Graph
- Strong organisational and project planning skills, and a healthy respect for deadlines
- Friendly, pro-active team player with a keen eye for detail
- Aware of current art tools, techniques and development best practice
- A genuine interest and passion for creating and playing games
- Are experienced and comfortable setting up and running outsourcing
- Can introduce the use of tools to assist with the creation of higher quality artwork or improve productivity
