Job description

We’re working with the forward-thinking Thunderful Games to find them a Marketing Director. Thunderful are a rapidly growing force in games publishing, being known for a strong commitment to both creativity and innovation.

As Thunderful’s Marketing Director you will play a pivotal part in an interdisciplinary team of publishing experts, helping to establish Thunderful as the go-to business partner for developers and ensuring the successful launch of their diverse portfolio of games.

You will be responsible for leading and managing the Marketing and Creative Services group, driving a shift towards an agile, data-driven publishing model, and be instrumental in setting up a robust reporting framework; establishing key performance indicators that promote a data-informed mindset within the team.

Beyond that, your role will involve crafting and executing comprehensive marketing strategies designed to enhance player engagement, drive revenue growth, and identify new opportunities for brand development, drawing on your understanding of the video game industry, leadership skills, and your ability to iterate and adapt strategies to meet the demands of today’s competitive gaming landscape.

Your role will also see you take ownership of specific products within Thunderful’s portfolio, where you will be tasked with developing and implementing integrated marketing plans, advising on product positioning, and coordinating efforts between product teams, internal marketing, creative services, and external agencies.

This role can be worked remotely or from any of Thunderful’s office locations.

Your responsibilities also include…
  • Oversee market research and analysis of industry trends, player preferences, and competitor activities, both internal and commissioned studies
  • Manage the creation of high-quality marketing content, including trailers, promo videos, social assets, and advertising materials
  • Coordinate with external Production to align marketing efforts with studio requirements
  • Maintain a deep, strategic understanding of the game industry and gaming culture, analysing market trends, player demographics, and industry developments
  • Stay on top of trends in gaming and marketing, to guide strategic decision-making at Thunderful
  • Oversee the definition and implementation of a game’s USPs, tone of voice, and branding, aligned with Product team and studio requirements
  • Assess brand growth and engagement, collaborating with Director of Sales and Social Media to find development opportunities
  • Lead initiatives to expand the game’s presence, explore merchandising or spin-off opportunities, form strategic partnerships to enhance brand visibility
  • Develop, manage, and report on the marketing budget, ensure efficient resource allocation and maximise ROI
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire Thunderful’s marketing team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Collaborate with the Director of Sales and Social Media to develop strategies that engage Thunderful’s player community, fostering loyalty and advocacy
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Strategic mindset and a results-oriented approach and creative problem solving skills
  • Confident and self-aware leader
  • History of improving efficiency and effectiveness
  • Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, master’s degree is preferrable
  • 8 or more years of experience in Marketing
  • 3 or more years in a leadership role whilst working in the games industry
  • Experience of working with mixed marketing budgets, both large and small
  • Proven track record of successful marketing campaigns and brand management in games, ideally with experience across indie and AA titles
  • In-depth knowledge of the video game market, player demographics, and industry trends
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience leading and inspiring teams
  • Well versed in digital marketing tools and analytics platforms
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
