Job description
We’ve teamed up with an innovative studio that's pushing the boundaries of the action RPG genre as they recruit for a Lead Game Designer.
The studio is based in Lyon, France and has a team that’s been built by industry veterans with a wealth of expertise and experience, this knowledge, alongside cutting-edge tech is being brought to bear on the studios genre-defining action RPG project.
As Lead Game Designer, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of an ambitious project within a collaborative team environment.
The role is to be worked on a hybrid basis, with 2 days per week on-site in the studio.
Your responsibilities…
Provide strategic design leadership and documentation across all departments.
Drive creative direction while maintaining clear communication with Design teams.
Design core features including 3C, game systems, combat mechanics, enemy design, and AI behaviours.
Collaborate closely with Art and Technical departments to optimize design implementation.
Mentor and oversee Design team members, including Combat, Level, and Audio Designers.
Foster an inclusive environment that encourages creative innovation and open dialogue.
Support team growth through active participation in recruitment for the Design teams.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
Previously held a Lead Game Design role in the games industry.
Deep understanding of systemic gameplay mechanics.
Proven project and risk management ability.
Strong team leadership capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to build trust and collaborative relationships.
Commitment to iterative development and quality.
Self-motivated with excellent decision-making abilities.
Non-essential but desirable extras…
Technical background, be that educational or practical.
Action RPG development or playing experience.
Proficiency with Unreal and/or Unity engines.
