Job description

Hugh Baird College are working with us to find Game Design Lecturer to join their Faculty of Creative Industries at Hugh Baird University Centre. This is a full time, fixed term role until the end of the current academic year.

As a Game Design Lecturer, you will aim to exceed the expectations of students and future employers as you deliver inspirational teaching to support students in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for their next steps and achieve the grades needed to progress further with study or seeking employment.

Your responsibilities…
  • Implement feedback and assessment systems
  • Operate within the Quality Assurance framework
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation, development and implementation
  • Maintain a professional learning environment in the classroom, using the college’s behaviour management processes
  • Deliver teaching and learning that motivates and inspires learners
  • Develop assessments and mark students’ work, supplying clear, direct and constructive verbal and written feedback
  • Supervise practical activities, workshops and work placements
  • Use technology effectively, including the college’s virtual learning environment, to enable independent learning at any time or place
  • Develop and use high quality resources and teaching materials which meet course frameworks and learning outcomes
  • Embed career related employability skills through high quality teaching
  • Ensure the prompt and accurate completion of systems to accurately record student assessments, achievements and progress
  • Invigilate examinations and liaise with external examiners/internal and external verifiers
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students and groups to help awareness of problems and difficulties, identifying when support is needed
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support the development of a college culture which is free from bullying, harassment or discrimination
  • Take part in reviews of course performance
  • Undertaking self-directed learning, research and training, participate in regular internal CPD
  • Undertake teaching on a maximum of two evenings per week if needed
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • Professional games industry experience, ideally 1 or more years
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine and Blueprints, Maya, Substance Painter and design workflows
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Strong communicator, comfortable conveying complex thoughts and ideas effectively
  • Willingness to continually grow and develop in the best interests of sharing knowledge with the next generation of the games industry

  • Prior teaching experience
