Lead Level Designer

Splash Damage – Kent, UK

As Splash Damage's Lead Level Designer, you will be responsible for the level design of an entire product, driving end-to-end implementation across the team. You will establish and direct the vision for the levels, defining quality targets and ensuring that department are equipped to build epic, memorable, and stunning maps. 

In this role, your responsibilities will include realising and communicating the game vision throughout the studio, ensuring alignment across all disciplines. You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and create and maintain level related documentation, ensuring that all level content and processes are documented thoroughly.

The skills and experience you'll need to succeed include…

  • Extensive professional development in senior/lead positions
  • Credits on two or more shipped AAA titles on console or PC, within the current generation, that featured a multiplayer component
  • Have worked on a full development cycle of a shipped game
  • Expertise in creating first or third person shooters
  • Capable of level-building using 3D level editing tools (Unreal Engine 4, UnrealEd, Hammer, Radiant, etc.)
  • A background in prototyping maps and gameplay mechanics using UE4, UE3, Unity, or similar
  • Confident with writing high quality and thorough design documentation, including diagram and flow-chart creation
  • A track record with source-control applications (SVN, Perforce, AlienBrain, etc.)
  • A history of strong multiplayer level design

Bonus points if you have…

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 Blueprints, Flow Graph, or other visual scripting software
  • Knowledge of gameplay event scripting and entity setup
  • A familiarity with UnrealEd/UDK and Kismet
  • Strong skills in 3DS Max, Maya, or other professional 3D modelling software
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or similar program
  • Knowledgeable about scripting or programming languages
  • Experience with wiki-based design documentation
  • An undergraduate degree in video game design, computer science, marketing, entertainment, or a form of technical training
  • A track record of running the live phase of a games as a service title, including using telemetry / metrics to inform design and content decisions
