About Me:
I suppose someone might describe me as the epitome of the typical family man, complete with the awful dad jokes, a receding (okay fully receded) hairline, and a penchant for barbequing on the weekend. I value nothing more than spending time with my wife and two young children, and in my free time, I like to…what am I saying? I have two young children; I have no free time. If I did, I would “be forging iconic historical weapons, in my own signature style, at my home forge” (quote the television series Forged in Fire). The first thing people usually notice about me is my odd accent. Well if your mother was from Yorkshire, your dad was Rhodesian, you were born in Zimbabwe, grew up in Namibia, but spent the majority of your life in various parts of South Africa (all before moving to the UK), you would probably have a bit of an odd accent too.
Favourite Game: Unreal Tournament / Age of Mythology
Favourite Game Series: Hitman / Medal of Honour
Favourite TV Series: Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones
Favourite Film: Fight Club
Favourite Book: The Troll Hunter by Keith C. Blackmore
Favourite Song/Band: Rammstein (don’t pass judgement)
How did you get into games as a hobby?
My dad bought my brother and me a Golden China gaming console (a clone of the NES) when we were kids. We spent hours playing Contra, Double Dragon, Battle City, Ice Climber, Adventure Island, and every other game that came on those 600-in-1 game cartridges. From there, it progressed to Battle Toads, Road Rash, and Mortal Combat on Sega. This eventually culminated in 17-hour long LAN tournaments trying to survive more than 5 minutes in an Unreal Tournament arena.
What’s your career background?
Going on for 13 years in recruitment and still loving it. Prior to this, I was in the meat trade (import/export), so recruitment was the next logical step…obviously!
What do you love most about your job?
The great folk I work with and getting to recruit for the MANY companies that develop the games that I love.
Favourite memory so far?
As soppy as it may sound, every memory involving my wife and two kids…wait…was this supposed to be work related?
