Job Title: Recruitment Consultant
I ADORE reality TV shows. I’m not ashamed of it; they’re great! I bought a house on my own in 2019 on the outskirts of Doncaster, which I’m very proud of, and I’m originally from Sheffield. Growing up I was a part of the cadets and participated in ‘Miss South Yorkshire’ in 2011! I’m also half Scottish.
Favourite Game: Grand Theft Auto V
Favourite Game Series: Grand Theft Auto
Favourite TV Series: Gossip Girl
Favourite Film: Titanic and Despicable Me (I refuse to choose ONE)
Favourite Book: Molly Moon’s Incredible Book of Hypnotism
Favourite Song/Band: Arizona
How did you get into games as a hobby?
Growing up my Dad and his friend were really into games consoles. My first was the original PlayStation. I don’t even want to try and guesstimate the amount of hours I played on it. This hasn’t changed as I’ve gotten older, I still play racing games pretty much every night. I’m also partial to Call of Duty.
What’s your career background?
I worked at Rotherham College for over nine years as an administrator, then applied for a job at Aardvark Swift as a Junior Resourcer. It was a perfect way to marry my hobby with the skills I’d learned through work. Two years on, I’ve been promoted to a full-time Recruitment Consultant within the Programming team.
What’s an average day look like for you at Aardvark Swift?
My average day involves a lot of CV reading! Around that I catch up with my candidates to see if their circumstances have changed or if I can assist them more in any way. Throughout the day I catch up with the rest of the Programming team to see if I can support them in any way. We always help each other with new roles. Say, for example, that I have the perfect candidate for a studio being taken care of by someone else; we connect the dots and make the introductions!
What do you love most about your job?
I love the idea of being able to work with studios from around the world. I’ve helped candidates get positions at studios whose games I’ve enjoyed, contributing to future titles in this way is very exciting! We’re helping to shape the future of games and that’s crazy to think about. Matching the right person to the right vacancy is the absolute best. When both sides are happy with the outcome, you can’t ask for more!
Favourite memory so far?
The company trip to Hamburg at the end of my first year was fantastic. I had four offers of employment for four different candidates lined up just before this and it was the perfect way to cap off a busy, but rewarding, period of work.
