The Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards returned on Tuesday, January 21st. The celebration of the portable gaming industry, and the people who work within it, is now in its third year. It was hosted on the last night of PG Connects London, which is one of the leading mobile gaming industry conferences. Across the two days, more than 2,500 delegates get to hear insights from 300 of the world’s leading authorities in the gaming industry.
We were fortunate enough to be nominated for the Best Recruitment Agency of the year, alongside stiff competition. Making the trip down to the gorgeous Cafe De Paris venue, in London’s West End, was Ian Goodall, Chris Mellor, Jordan Hennell and James Bowers. The night itself was one to remember! The fully catered event was packed full of industry devs and professionals. In attendance were Triband (developers of What the Golf?), Rovio and too many others to name!
We had to wait nervously until the very last award to find out the result of our category (which has probably taken a few years off our collective lives). We’re incredibly happy to report we came away with the award! “The sector is full of really talented people. I just want to thank everyone for allowing us to keep finding that talent for them. I also really want to thank the judging panel and my hard-working team in South Yorkshire,” Ian announced in his acceptance speech.
After the event we got to speak to the other nominees and winners of the night, and found everyone incredibly positive about the state of mobile gaming and where it was heading in the years ahead. As the night winded down with a drinks reception, we had chance to reflect on just what the unexpected win meant to us.
“Being invited down to an awards evening, after only being with Aardvark for a relatively short time, might sound daunting. Luckily for me the night went perfectly. It was so nice for the team to get recognition for the hard work they put in throughout the year. It may have been my first awards evening representing Aardvark Swift, but it hopefully won’t be the last!” added Jordan after the night had come to a close and we were Tetris’d into the nearest tube car.
Over a hearty breakfast the next morning, Chris added, “it was really good to see the growth and the impact of the mobile industry on full show. Getting a more thorough understanding of the studios competing in that space and networking with our shared contacts really tied everything together. It was nerve-wracking collecting the award, but it’s humbling to add another one to our collection after such a short time. The team are thrilled.”
We’re looking forward to the year ahead after hitting the ground running in 2020. We will continue to strive to hit the same high bar we have set for ourselves and are always available to talk to current and potential clients of all shapes and sizes.
