Weekly Games Patch 17/12/19

It’s been a VERY busy week in games as The Game Awards 🏆 brought us not only trophies and puzzled expressions; but NEXT-GEN hardware as well!

Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X, the official name for their project Scarlet console. Xbox Boss Phil Spencer took to the stage to show off the new hardware which will launch towards the end of 2020. The form factor resembles a PC tower and boasts 4x more power than the Xbox One X, which is good as it will give people mad about it not fitting in an entertainment unit something to look forward to! Based on the tech inside, IGN guessed the next-gen console will cost somewhere in the region of “$600, possibly without a controller”…but both Microsoft and Sony have sold hardware at a loss in the past and made up the ground via software sales.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice provided the second biggest shock of The Game Awards as it came away with the Game of the Year accolade ahead of other, more expected to win, titles in its category including; CONTROL, Death Stranding, The Outer Worlds and Resident Evil 2.

Former Platinum Games CEO Tatsuya Minami is heading up M-Two Inc, a new Capcom-backed studio responsible for developing the Resident Evil 3: Remake (which was also announced at The Game Awards but what wasn’t?). With the Resident Evil 2: Remake making such a HUGE impact and landing in the top 5 of most GOTY lists, anticipation for the next instalment is high.
