In this position, you will work on projects to automate and improve the efficiency of SCEE's development processes such as setting up and maintaining automatic build processes and automated test tools.

You will have first-hand experience of source code control systems, build tool chains and automated systems and will work with teams in multiple regions to help integrate and commit validated code into SCEE's centralized repositories.

Working closely with the development teams and product specifications, you will develop systems, largely in python or .net languages (including C, C++). Any issues will be logged and resolved via SCEE's issue tracking systems.

You will work on a variety of PlayStation platforms using development hardware, testing a variety of libraries, applications and documentation developed by SCEE's R&D groups.

Indirectly, you will work on projects to validate and improve quality standards of SDK components developed by SCEE R&D, from design through to package and release to our game developers.

This is a senior level, software development role, within a team focused on delivering the studio’s tools technologies.

We are seeking an engineer to set clear strategic direction for the development of game tools within the Cambridge studio, and lead a team of engineers to meet that vision.

In this role, the candidate will be responsible for the architecture and development of many significant system components: encompassing the areas of asset generation, content authoring and conversion pipelines to the projects’ runtime engines.
As such, the candidate would have substantial experience in this field, having worked in this capacity to support a previously released title.

The role will involve the collation of requirements from the internal game teams, the design and implementation of timely solutions to meet them, and the continued support for those solutions.
Within this capacity, the candidate will exercise strong strategic planning skills to prioritise and align the needs of the individual, against those of both the studio and the company. Here, their exceptional problem solving skills will be married with a thorough knowledge of contemporary software architecture and API design, to ensure their solution designs appropriately balance feature sets, performance and cost-of-implementation.


The position necessitates close working relationships with all discipline groups across the studio; excellent communication and diplomacy skills are a must - the candidate will show an understanding of the requirements for each group, and be receptive to the need to rapidly iterate on their delivered solutions.

Able to organise and track their own work, the candidate will be self-directed with excellent time management skills. A strong man-manager, they will also play a key role in the future growth of the tools team, and be expected to assist in the recruitment and development of the staff, therein.

This would be an ideal role for someone looking to make the move from their current position of senior tools engineer to a lead position.


Requirements

This role is well suited to a programmer with a significant degree of experience in tools programming, who may wish to step up to a lead role, or who already has team leadership experience.
The right candidate will be expected to work with members of their programming team to produce strong designs, and review their work to ensure it is well engineered & documented. You will be responsible for creating schedules and managing your programmers to ensure on-time delivery of high quality tools.
You will identify creative and pipeline requirements and devise technical solutions to allow the creative teams to deliver on their goals. You will need to provide visibility on the roadmap for the tools team and to communicate the priorities that the tools team is working to.
As well as leading & managing your team, you will be expected to be “hands on” - using your experience to get involved in writing code & developing tools yourself!

Key requirements:
● Strong C++ skills are essential - a minimum of 5 years C++ experience.
● Game code development experience, on current generation platforms (i.e. PS3, Xbox360, or Wii)
● Strong C# programming - a minimum of 2 years experience.
● Strong User Interface design skills.
● Experience of a broad variety of programming languages, script languages, UI toolkits, shell scripts. Examples include :
C++, C#, C, Assembly languages.
Script Languages : Python, Perl, LUA, PHP, Shell, Batch, MaxScript, MELscript, etc.
Qt, .net, MFC, Win32, wx Widgets, or similar.
● Able to produce excellent documentation - both technical documentation for programmers (API documentation), and end-user documentation. E.g. Wiki based, .doc/.pdf.
