Job description

We’re working with an exciting up and coming Canadian indie studio to find them a Senior Environment Artist as they ramp up production of their debut project.

As Senior Environment Artist you’ll report to the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director and handle modelling, texturing, lighting, optimization, and level design to create stunning, beautiful, and immersive environments.

You’ll be working on an RPG game inspired by some of the most beloved games of the genre, where you will travel from the forgotten eras through to the end of time! You'll do this as part of a studio that appreciates and values diversity and inclusivity and boasts a dev team full of experienced, talented AAA and indie developers that have worked on titles such as; Age of Empires, Tomb Raider, Warframe, Shovel Knight, Duelyst, and Stray.

Your responsibilities…
  • Work with both 3D and 2D assets to create efficient, production-ready stylized 3D environments from block out to polished states
  • Modelling and texturing assets from concept art and descriptions
  • UV unwrapping, texture mapping
  • Importing models into Unreal, setting them up correctly, and creating applicable materials
  • Working closely with the rest of the art team to maintain a consistent and high-quality art style
  • Working closely with game designers to create and adjust environments based on gameplay needs
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
  • 4 or more years of experience in 3D modelling and texturing
  • Shipped one or more titles as an Environment Artist
  • Skilled in industry standard tools like Maya, Blender, Photoshop
  • Expert knowledge of game environment development processes such as low poly modelling, diffuse texturing, modular construction and organization, lighting/post-process techniques, etc
  • Good sense of asset organization and adherence to naming conventions
  • Foundational art knowledge of colour theory, composition, shape language, and 2D painting/drawing skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive towards clarity to deliver work on time
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback
Desirable extras…
  •  A love of Retro RPGs
  • Familiar with Unreal Engine
  • Experience working with Pixel Art
  • A resident of BC, Ontario or Quebec, Canada
